Hello,
Cool Video.
I am new to Ableton and thought your video was very enlightening. It answered a lot of questions about side chain compression and its uses. However, I could not get the compressor to work on my computer. It kept telling me that it could not find the VST plugin even though I downloaded it from the site you provided. Could you help me out?
Also, the sound you get out of the impOSCar is really cool. It is exactly what I am looking for in my electro house songs. Is it possible to make those sounds in Live or are expensive plug-ins the only way.
You seem to really now your stuff GURU! I hope you can help me out with learning Live.

Hi Geoff,
The impOSCar is one of the best synths for getting gritty electro house bass lines and leads. It’s one of my favorite soft synths, and I use it all the time. If you are looking to buy a soft synth in the near future, this one is definitely worth the money.
However, that said, I do think it’s possible to get similar sounds out of Live using freeware synths and lives audio fx. There are a TON of freeware synths out there. Some are easier to find than others, but it just takes some scouting around to find the one with the right sound.
An electro house tutorial is actually in the lineup at the moment. I’ll make sure to use freeware synths when I make it.

Thanks Nick! Great tip. The plugin also has “KeyVolume” which seems to eliminate the need for the second track (at least on my setup, Live 6.0.3 Win XP). If you raise this value it brings in the input signal.

Very good vid.
I have just discovered sidechaining. I have some nice plugins, which are all VST. The only ones that seem to work are Compadre and Vokator. I use Vokator to receive the audio from another channel, with audio on it’s own channel, then put any fx plugs over vokator. Seems to work, but is this correct.
Plugins seem to munch cpu, which limits my process. Also alot of my plugins say there S.C. but don’t seem routable. Compadre is ok but limited. I don’t see why more vst plugs don’t work, as this way of making dance music kicks.
